PRAIA DO DIABO, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Wednesday, November 2, 2011)
Caio Ibeli (BRA) has defeated defending ASP World Junior Champion Jack Freestone (AUS) to win the Arnette ASP World Junior presented by Quiksilver in two-to-three foot waves at the backup venue of Praia Do Diabo on an action packed final day of competition.
Ibeli remained consistent on the final day of competition and was the only surfer who was able to put a stop to Freestone's rampage to take the win. The talented Brazilian opened his Final with a solid score and backed the ride up with an 8.60 (out of 10), which proved enough to clinch the Arnette ASP World Junior Title.
I'm feeling really good, this is the best day of my life and I've been training a lot," Ibeli said. "I got an 8.6, and built confidence and just tried my best. I'm so happy that I won this event. I love competing at home and I was trying to make the final a year ago in Narrabeen, so I was stoked to make the final. Jack was surfing really good, he got the 10 today and I just stuck with my strategy."
